About
PRISM
Welcome to The PRISM (Psychosocial Risk and Safety Management) Lab Group
Situated in the Centre for Business and Organisational Psychology at the University of Queensland, we are a group of national and international scholars who work at the intersection of workplace safety and mental health. We explore the complex dynamics of Psychosocial Risk and Safety Management in workplaces in order to develop actionable insights that promote healthier, safer workplaces for all.
Our research streams
Psychosocial Hazards and Workplace Mental Health
This research stream investigates the impact of psychosocial hazards - such as work demands, job insecurity, fatigue, bullying, and sexual harassment - on worker mental health and wellbeing. By identifying and analysing these hazards, we aim to develop strategies that organisations can implement to foster a good work design and supportive work environments.
Workplace Regulation for Work-Related Mental Health
Focusing on the regulatory regimes surrounding workplace mental health, this stream examines how legislative frameworks, policies, and regulatory actions can effectively address mental health issues in occupational settings. Our research seeks to analyse existing regulations and propose improvements that ensure mental health considerations are integrated into workplace practices, ultimately enhancing safety and well-being for all employees.
The Psychology of Health and Safety at Work
This stream explores the psychological factors that influence health and safety behaviours in the workplace. By understanding the organisational-level drivers, team-level dynamics, and individual-level motivations, perceptions, and attitudes regarding safety practices, we aim to identify ways to enhance compliance and foster safety. Our goal is to bridge the gap between psychological theory and practical safety applications, leading to safer work environments.
